Today was our first foray into the world of letterboxing. We chose a letterbox with a hike and clues that would be easy for our first try. We began at the Ma & Pa trail head on Tollgate Road:
We continued on the trail which follows Tollgate Road. (Note: For locals, if you search for this letterbox, do not cross Tollgate to Heavenly Waters Park and take the brand new portion of the trail which ends at Annie's Playground.)
On our way with dog in tow and a three-year-old that would like to be carried:
Our first clue is to look for the 3/4 mile marker. I figure it won't be too hard to watch for with five pairs of eyes:
Several clues later, we located the box with great excitement:
We made our entry in the letterbox's log, stamped our log with its stamp, packed it all up, and carefully concealed it in the original hiding place.
It was especially fun to read other finders' remarks and see their stamps since the letterbox was first placed in 2004. On the way back, we tried to remember how many times we had walked that portion of trail and passed by the letterbox's hiding place without knowing it was there.
Now we're hooked. Of course, we must make our own signature rubber stamp and seach for another local letterbox soon.
