News: Karl has accepted a job offer which will move us to the greater Hagerstown/Frederick (or even on the other side of the Potomac river in West Virginia), Maryland area. I'm thrilled for him and this new opportunity for our family in that beautiful, historic area, and a little anxious (ok, a lot anxious) about what it's going to take to get this house market-ready. And about homeschooling in some form or fashion through this season of change.
Thankfully, it's only about a two hours' drive from where we live now, which will make the process smoother. Maybe.
If I'm not here much, you can just imagine me scrubbing, painting, purging, and making other preparations for this house to sell.
I'm already wondering about all the great people we'll meet and connections we'll make in our new area, and excited about all our new adventures there!

It's strange reading this post. Today is the first anniversary of when my dh got a new job 7 hours' drive from our old home (that's across the entire country here in the UK!). I was very unimpressed. We've been in our new home 5 months and 5 days now and it's still tough but I've been blessed beyond what I had prayed for and much to my surprise us coming here answered the prayers of some of our new friends and neighbours. It's been a lesson I didn't want to learn because I would love to feel like somewhere is home, but that just can't be so when your heart belongs to the Lord. Our home is with Him.
As regards homeschooling during house prep, selling, travelling to view new houses, settling in to the new place, well, here's some of the things that worked for me. Firstly, I tried to find a compromise between not giving myself a nervous breakdown and not ignoring my children's education altogether! I planned the new school year to start 3-4 weeks after our move which is about 2 weeks later than I would have done otherwise, and the first thing we did was a project on our new locality. I collected up all my homeschooling resources I was likely to need in the first term and my kind sister kept them at her house so that they couldn't get lost by the removal company or if the purchase had fallen through at the last minute they wouldn't have been sent off to storage by mistake!
As soon as we had the internet connected at the new house I arranged for dh to take the kids out for the day so that I could order books (difficult when you don't know when you're going to move so don't know where to have them shipped) and plan.
I hope it all goes well for you. I'll pray for you.

Ooo, you know you are going to be right on the travel path between our house (in Western PA) and our friend whom we visit in Alexandria, VA! (About 2.5 hrs out.) That is pretty cool.
Just take it one day at a time and know that God is going to make sure the kids are learning what they need in this season too (and believe me they will be learning a ton if they are about as you prepare for the move.)

Getting the house ready is such hard work, but can be a major payoff!! We raked it in on our last house because of a "designed to sell" type approach. We spent $1500 (light fixtures, new fawcets, paint..that kind of thing) and made probably an extra $18,000 on the sale when NO one was buying or selling and especially not making any profit (at least in our neighborhood)! Go for it. :)

I grew up in Maryland. It is a lovely place indeed. Praying your relocation efforts are going well, and that you are settled again soon in your new home.
